Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What brands do you carry?

We carry industrial compressed air equipment from Ingersoll Rand and Rolair. Our catalog includes reciprocating compressors, rotary screw compressors, variable speed drive (VSD) systems, refrigerated and desiccant air dryers, inline filters, receiver tanks, and accessories ranging from 2 HP to 50 HP.

What's the difference between fixed speed and variable speed (VSD) compressors?

A fixed speed compressor runs at a constant RPM and is either fully on or fully off. It's best for applications with consistent, steady air demand. A variable speed drive (VSD) compressor adjusts motor speed to match real-time air demand, which can reduce energy costs by 30-50% in applications with fluctuating usage. We carry both types from Ingersoll Rand, plus fixed speed reciprocating models from Rolair.

What's the difference between reciprocating and rotary screw compressors?

Reciprocating (piston) compressors use pistons to compress air and are ideal for intermittent duty cycles — auto shops, small manufacturing, woodworking. They're available from both Ingersoll Rand and Rolair in our catalog. Rotary screw compressors use twin helical rotors for continuous-duty operation and are better suited for facilities that need constant air supply — production lines, large manufacturing, food processing. We carry Ingersoll Rand rotary screw models from 5 to 50 HP.

Do I need an air dryer?

In most industrial applications, yes. Compressed air contains moisture that can damage pneumatic tools, cause corrosion in piping, and contaminate products. A refrigerated dryer is sufficient for most general industrial applications. Desiccant dryers are needed for applications requiring very dry air (painting, food/beverage, pharmaceuticals). We carry Ingersoll Rand refrigerated and desiccant dryers sized to match any compressor in our catalog.

How do I know what size compressor I need?

Compressor sizing depends on three factors: CFM (how much air your tools/equipment need), PSI (the pressure required), and duty cycle (how often the compressor runs). Add up the CFM requirements of all tools that may run simultaneously, then add 20-30% for future growth. If you need help, submit your requirements or call us at (727) 900-5977 and we'll recommend the right system.

How does shipping work?

Large items ship by LTL freight. Freight cost varies by destination and delivery requirements and will be calculated at checkout or confirmed before processing. Most products ship via LTL freight carrier directly from the manufacturer.

Can I get a custom quote for a large order?

Absolutely. If you're outfitting a new facility or need multiple pieces of equipment, submit a quote request or call us at (727) 900-5977. We can provide package pricing for complete compressed air systems including compressor, dryer, filtration, piping, and receiver tank.

What warranty do your products come with?

Every product ships with the original manufacturer's full factory warranty. Ingersoll Rand rotary screw airends carry up to a 10-year warranty. Reciprocating compressors from both IR and Rolair typically carry 1-2 year warranties on pump and motor components. See our Warranty Information page for full details.

What is your return policy?

All returns must be coordinated with us before shipping. Contact us at (727) 900-5977 or sales@caldwellair.com to initiate a return. Products must be in original, unused condition with all packaging. A restocking fee may apply. See our Shipping & Returns page for complete details.
